Tennis player Horia Tecau
The Romanian-Dutch pair Horia Tecau and Jean-Julien Rojer won the doubles title at the Geneva ATP tennis tournament worth a total of 482,060 euros. In the final, Tecau and Rojer defeated the all-Columbian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in three sets, 2-6, 7-6, 10-6. Seeded first at this tournament, Tecau and Rojer won the match against the second-seeded pair in 1 hour and 51 minutes. They also lead the head-to-head 2:1. This is Tecau and Rojer's second title this year, the first being in Dubai. The two players will earn 26,110 euros and 250 ATP points. For his achievement, Radio Romania International designates Horia Tecau the athlete of the week.
In his career so far, Horia Tecau has won 31 doubles titles and has lost 17 finals. He won 14 titles with Rojer, 8 in 2014 in Zagreb, Casablanca, Bucharest, s-Hertogenbosch, Washington, Shenzhen, Beijing and Valencia; 3 in 2015 in Rotterdam, Wimbledon and the World Tour Final in London; 1 in 2016 in Madrid; and 2 in 2017, in Dubai and Geneva. Tecau and Rojer lost four finals together: in Rotterdam in 2014; in Sydney and Nice in 2015; and in Cincinnati in 2016.
In 2013, Horia Tecau won three titles together with Max Mirnyi, in Bucharest, s-Hertogenbosch and Beijing. With the Swedish player Robert Lindstedt, he won 10 titles: 4 in 2010 in New haven, Bastad (in Sweden), s-Hertogenbosch and Casablanca; 2 in 2011 in Bastad and Casablanca; and 4 in 2012 in Bucharest, s-Hertogenbosch, Bastad and Cincinnati. Tecau also played together with Marcus Daniell of New Zealand, winning a title in Auckland in 2011, with Victor Hanescu, from Romania, winning in Acapulco, and with the Belgian player Dick Norman, winning in Zagreb.
In 2016, together with another Romanian, Florin Mergea, he won the Bucharest title. One of Tecau's greatest achievements is winning the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open together with the American player Bethanie Mattek Sands, in 2012.
