Romania’s women’s handball team is top of the table in Group A of the World Championships hosted by Germany. In the 4th leg, played yesterday, Romania defeated Angola, 27-24, while Spain and France drew 25-25. In the third match of the group, Slovenia beat Paraguay 28-22. In the group ranking, Romania comes first with 8 points, followed by Slovenia with 6 points, France with 5 points, Spain with 5 points, Angola and Paraguay with 0 points. Romania plays its last Group A match against France. In the round of 16, the national team will face the 4th-ranking team in Group B, which could be the Czech Republic or Hungary.
In football, Romania’s vice-champions FCSB were defeated Thursday night by the Swiss team Lugano, 2-1 at home, in Group G of Europa League. For the Swiss side, Fabio Daprela scored 3 minutes after the start of the game, and Balint Vecsei half an hour later. The Romanian side’s only goal was scored by Harlem Gnohere, on 60 minutes. In the other match of the group, the Czech side Viktoria Plzen beat the Israeli team Hapoel Beer Sheva 2-0, away from home. Victoria Plzen won the group, followed by FCSB, Lugano and Hapoel.
This weekend brings the 21st leg on the national football championship’s League 1. On Friday, Juventus Bucharest takes on Astra Giurgiu.
