A preview of the football action in Romania this weekend.
The most important event this weekend is the final leg of the Romanian football championship, which will give us the names of the new champion and the sides that will play in the future edition of the Second League. The three remaining Group I matches will be played on Saturday starting at 8 pm, with three of the six sides in the group being in a position to win the Romanian championship title.
FCSB, who are currently in the first place with 41 points, will play at home against Universitatea Craiova, currently in fifth position with 31 points. Viitorul Constanta, now in second place with the same number of points as FCSB, will face CFR Cluj, who are in the fourth position with 33 points. Dinamo Bucharest, who are in third place with 38 points, will play against the defending champions Astra Giurgiu, who are currently in 6th place with 26 points.
Viitorul Constanta are best placed to secure the championship title. If they win against CFR Cluj, they will become champions for the first time in the club's history, regardless of the results of the other matches. Even if FCSB win and accumulate the same number of points as Viitorul, the latter have an advantage on account of their face-to-face record, a 3-1 win over FCSB and a draw.
FCSB may win the championship if they win their final match and Viitorul fail to win, or if they end their match in a draw and Viitorul lose and Dinamo fail to win against Astra.
Dinamo Bucharest may also become champions if they win their final match and if both Viitorul and FCSB lose in this final stage. Dinamo may also win the championship if they finish with the same number of points as either of the other two teams, given their face-to-face record against Viitorul, a 2-1 and a goalless draw, and a better goal average than FCSB.
In case the three sides finish the championship games with the same amount of points, the winner of the title will be decided based on their face-to-face records in Group I, with Dinamo thus accumulating 7 points, Viitorul 5 and FCSB 4.
Group II, which sees eight teams fighting to avoid relegation, has 14 legs and will end at the beginning of June.
