The 4th leg in the play-off/play-out stage of the Romanian First League Football Championship has brought about a new order in the rankings. FCSB, formerly known as Steaua Bucharest, is now top of the table following their victory against Astra Giurgiu and because of the defeat the former League leader, Viitorul, sustained on home ground against Craiova. Let’s now review the matches.
On Tuesday two matches were played in the play-out stage. ASA Târgu Mureş took on Pandurii from Târgu Jiu on home ground while in Timişoara Poli played against Concordia Chiajna. Both matches ended in a goalless draw. Another two matches were played on Wednesday. FC Botoşani defeated FC Voluntari, on home ground, 3-0, while Poli Iaşi defeated, in the away match, Gaz Metan from Mediaş, 2-0. In the play-out stage ranking, ASA Târgu Mureş is ranked last, on 8th position, with only 10 points. On 6th and 7th places are Concordia Chiajna and Poli Timişoara, both with 14 points.
On Wednesday, in the play-offs, Dinamo Bucharest defeated CFR Cluj on the National Arena in Bucharest, 2-0. On Thursday in Ovidiu, CSU Craiova won against FC Viitorul from Constanţa 1-0, thanks to a goal scored during the extra time. FCSB thrashed Astra 3-0. In the first half, Denis Alibec, a former player of Astra Giurgiu, scored twice and executed a pass that was turned into a goal. FCSB and Viitorul are now at the top of the table with an equal number of points, but FCSB have a better goal average.
The matches of the 5th leg have been scheduled for the weekend. On Friday, in the play-out stage, Pandurii Târgu Jiu will take on Poli Timişoara in a match scheduled in Drobeta Turnu Severin. Saturday will see the match pitting FC Voluntari, on home ground, against last-ranking ASA Târgu Mureş, while FC Botoşani will take on Poli in Iaşi. On Monday, Concordia Chiajna will play on home ground against Gaz Metan Mediaş. In the playoffs, on Sunday, in Giurgiu, Astra will take on Dinamo Bucharest.
