The domestic football championship will be resumed, with fixtures counting towards the 22nd round scheduled to be played this coming weekend. Two games are to be played on Friday, when Panduri Targu Jiu take on Poli Iasi, in the city of Drobeta Turnu Severin and Astra face ASA Targu Mures in Giurgiu.
Two other matches are scheduled on Saturday. In Craiova, the local side CSU are pitted against FC Voluntari, with the game being hosted by Craiova’s Extensiv stadium. The other day CSU officials called the fans to help remove the snow from the pitch, by posting a message on the club’s Facebook page. Also on Saturday, Dinamo Bucharest receive the visit of the current leader, Viitorul Constanta. Temperatures are expected to rise in the Capital city by the time the match sees its kick-start, after below-zero temperature readings were recorded in the past few weeks.
On Sunday, FC Botosani play Concordia Chiajna on home turf. In the evening, in a game kick starting at 8 PM, local time, CFR Cluj take on Steaua, on home turf, in the 22nd round’s most eagerly-awaited match. CFR are in dire need of a win if they want to boost their chances to gain a place in the play-offs, yet Steaua cannot afford a defeat either, as they want to secure a place which is close to the top position in the table.
The 22nd round’s last fixture is scheduled for this coming Monday. In Timisoara, the local side Poli take on Gaz Metan Medias. Ahead of the 22nd round, Viitorul Constanta are at the top of the table with 42 points, followed by Steaua with 40 points and CSU Craiova, with 37.
We move on to women’s handball, as, in Ljubljana, on Saturday, CSM Bucharest play yet another fixture counting towards the Champions League’s main stage. CSM face Slovenia’s champions Krim Mercator, in a very important game that might secure CSM a place in the quarter-finals. In main Group B, Romania’s champion team CSM Bucharest are 5th-placed, with 3 points on their record sheet. Only the first four teams go through to the quarter-finals, so CSM seriously need to try their best on the pitch in order to get a very good result.
