TENNIS - Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, no.1 WTA, was defeated by Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, 6-0, 6-4 in the Rome tournament final, with some 3,351,729 dollars in prize money up for grabs. Thus, Elina Svitolina defended the title she won in 2017, after a final played against Simona Halep as well. Svitolina got a pay cheque worth 507,100 Euros and 900 points WTA, whereas Halep received 253,425 Euros and 585 points WTA.
RUGBY - Just like in 2017 the rugby teams Timisoara Saracens and CSM Stiinta Baia Mare will meet again in the CEC Bank SuperLeague final. In the semi-finals, Timisoara Saracens defeated CSM Bucharest away from home, 26-13, and CSM Stiinţa Baia Mare outperformed Steaua Bucharest, 20-19, also away from home. In the bronze final, Steaua are pitted against CSM Bucharest.
FOOTBALL – The 2017-2018 edition of Romania’s Football League 1 has come to a close, and the new football champion is CFR Cluj. The results of the three Group 1 matches, played on Sunday at the same hour, are the following: CSMS Iasi – CSU Craiova 1-2, FCSB – Astra Giurgiu 1-0 and CFR Cluj – Viitorul Constanta 1-0.
In the final classification, CFR Cluj ranks first with 50 points, followed by FCSB with 49 points and CSU Craiova with 38 points. In Group 2, 3 more rounds are still to be played. And now here are the results of the matches played at the weekend: Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe – Juventus Bucharest 2-1, Concordia Chiajna – Dinamo Bucharest 0-4, FC Voluntari – FC Botosani 1-1.The last match, between Poli Timisoara and Gaz Metan Medias is scheduled for Monday.
