A look at the latest main sporting events
Romania’s champions in women’s handball, CSM Bucharest, have made a big step towards the Champions League’s Final Four tournament. The Romanians have obtained a clear 34-21 home win against French side Metz Handball in the first leg of the quarterfinals. The game was believed to be the Romanians’ best this season under the guidance of Swedish headcoach Per Johansson. Cristina Neagu and Isabelle Gullden put on the best show for the Romanian side with 10 and seven goals scored, respectively.
In the first leg of the EHF Cup’s semifinals the Romanian women’s side SCM Craiova has secured a 23-22 win against Turkish challenger Kastamonu Belediyesi. Ana Maria Ticu scored seven goals for the Romanian side.
Now the latest from ice hockey. Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc has again become Romania’s national ice-hockey champion after winning 4-3 its sixth game against challenger Corona Brasov in the extra-time. Miercurea Ciuc has won 4-2 on aggregate securing its 16th national title. Third come Steaua Bucharest, which won 3-2 the match for the second and third positions against Progym Gheorgheni.
And now rugby. In the ninth leg of the National Rugby Super-league, CSM Bucharest has trounced Universitatea Cluj 54-14 while Stiinta Baia Mare lost 18-22 to Timisoara Saracens. Steaua Bucharest obtained a five-nil win after Poli Iasi had failed to show up for the game. Steaua tops the table with 34 points followed by CSM Bucharest with 27 and Stiinta Baia Mare with 25.
Here are now the results of the fourth leg of Romania’s first football league. In group one, Viitorul Constanta obtained a two-nil win against CSMS Iasi and the game pitching CFR Cluj to Astra Giurgiu ended in a draw, one-all. FCSB has secured a two-nil win against Universitatea Craiova. FCSB is the first in the rankings with 38 points, followed by CFR Cluj with 36.
Universitatea Craiova ranks third with 31 points. In group two, FC Botosani clinched a one-nil win against FC Voluntari while Dinamo Bucharest outperformed Concordia Chiajna three-one. Gaz Metan Medias ended in a one-all draw their game against Poli Timisoara, while Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe secured a two-nil win against Juventus Bucharest.
