EPEE- The Romanian women’s epee team has grabbed bronze in the European Fencing Championships held this weekend in Tbilisi, Georgia. In the bronze final, Romania defeated Estonia 45-38. Although our team is the defending Olympic champion, none of the fencers who took part in last year’s Rio Olympics was included in the lineup. Made up of Amalia Tataran, Greta Veres, Raluca Sbircia and Adela Danciu, the Romanians had a very good run in Tbilisi. They defeated Spain in the round of 16, 45-36, edged out Ukraine 44-40 in the quarterfinals and lost narrowly 41-45 to Russia in the semi-finals. Romania won bronze in the 2016 European Championships held in Torun, Poland, although last year the team included all the fencers who would later grab the Olympic gold. The men’s saber team came in sixth place.
