Athletes from Romania have walked away with four medals from the European Rowing Championships held in the Czech Republic.
In Racice, the Romanian rowers reaped three gold medals in the women’s contests and a silver in the men’s events. The first gold for Romania was won by our crew of four made up of Cristina Popescu, Alina Elena Pop, Beatrice Parfenie and Georgiana Parascanu.
On Sunday, Madalina Beres and Laura Oprea compelled recognition in the women’s pair. Then the Romanian eight, made up of Ioana Vranceanu, Viviana Bejenariu, Mihaela Petrila, Denisa Tilvescu, Madalina Beres, Iuliana Popa, Adelina Bogus, Laura Oprea and Daniela Druncea ended the race in the first position.
The Romanian four made up of Cristian Ivascu, Vlad Dragos Aicoboae, Marius Vasile Cozmiuc and Ciprian Tudosa won silver in Racice, where Romania was represented by 39 athletes in five male and five female events. The objective of the Romanian delegation before the competition was to win at least two medals.
The pair made up of Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau and Dutch Jean-Julien Rojer has won the doubles of the ATP tournament in Geneva. In the finals of the contest with more than 482 thousand euros in prize money the two have defeated the Columbian pair Juan Sebastian Cabal / Robert Farah 2-6, 7-6, 10-6.
Romania’s handball side Potaissa Turda has failed to qualify for the Challenge Cup after conceding defeat to Sporting Lisbon 30-24. The first game was won by the Portuguese side 37-28.
We go on with football. FC Voluntari won Romania’s Cup after defeating Astra Giurgiu 6-4 after extra-time and the penalty shootout. The score was even, one-all at the end of the 90 minutes. Alexandru Ionita put Astra in the lead on 35 minutes and Laurentiu Marinescu leveled the points in the 83rd minute by converting a penalty shot.

On Sunday, Poli Timisoara secured a three-one win against ASA Targu Mures. One game is pitching on Monday Concordia Chiajna against FC Botosani. The leg is due to end on Wednesday when Poli Iasi takes on FC Voluntari.
