Matches counting towards the 17th round of the domestic Football League One
This coming weekend will see matches counting towards the domestic Football League One, the 17th round. On Friday, on home turf, Politehnica Iasi will play Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. The guests rank 6th while Iasi is 13th placed and are in dire need of victory. In Cluj, the local team CFR will be up against FC Voluntari. CFR, ranking first in the standings, are also the favorites, while Voluntari are at the bottom of the table with only 8 points in 16 matches.
On Saturday afternoon in Targu Mures, FC Hermanstadt play Concordia Chiajna. The team from Sibiu only has a one-point advantage. On Saturday evening, on home turf, Viitorul Constanta will be up against Dinamo Bucharest. Viitorul is the main favourite, having secured the 3rd place at present. Dinamo ranks 10th in the standings and needs a good result in order to hope for the play-offs.
On Sunday, Universitatea Craiova receives the visit of Dunarea Calarasi. Craiova had been undefeated in the last 8 matches, until the last stage, when they were outscored by Botosani. They currently rank 8th, only 3 points away from the first 3 teams, and stand good chances to go through to the play-offs. Calarasi, on the other hand, have not scored in the last four matches, but got two precious points, of which one from the leader CFR Cluj. The last fixture scheduled for Sunday sees FCSB against Gaz Metan Medias. The match is played in Pitesti, given that the turf on the National Arena stadium is being replaced.
The last match of the 17th round is held on Monday in Giurgiu, where Astra plays FC Botosani. Astra ranks 7th with 20 points while the hosts rank 8th, having one point less. Under these circumstances, the final result can be very important for the two teams’ access to the play-off.
